Volume housing, apartments and domestic

Residential and domestic electricians

Volume housing runs on rhythm — so many rough-ins a week, so many fit-offs behind them. Lose a sparky and the whole run backs up. We supply licensed electricians to builders and to electrical contractors who need the hands to keep the rhythm.

Electricians roughing in cable through timber frames on a new housing estate, houses at frame stage down the street

Short answer

Grid Force Hire supplies A-Grade residential electricians across Melbourne and Victoria for volume housing estates, apartments and townhouses, renovations and extensions, and domestic service and maintenance work, on a casual hourly basis. Most of our hosts on this work are electrical contractors and builders who need extra licensed hands, and the work is carried out under their registration.

The work

What hosts ask us for on residential sites

Volume housing and new estates

Rough-in and fit-off across a run of houses in a growth-corridor estate — a steady weekly rhythm rather than one house at a time, with crews who know the builder's standard.

Apartments and townhouses

Unit rough-in and fit-off, risers and distribution, common-area and carpark services, and metering on multi-dwelling developments.

Renovations and extensions

Working in and around older homes — rewires, switchboard upgrades, additions tied back into existing installations, and the surprises that come with them.

Domestic service and maintenance

Service vans, call-out work, safety switch and switchboard upgrades, and small works where the electrician is on their own in someone's home.

Crew for electrical contractors

The most common version of this work: an electrical business with more jobs than sparkies. You keep your registration, your standards and your supervision — we supply the licensed hands and carry the employment.

Matched to your site

Tickets and clearances this work usually needs

This is what we're typically asked for on this kind of site — it isn't a fixed list. What your site needs is whatever you tell us on the request, and that's what we match to. Held is not the same as current, so we check the dates too.

  • Victorian A-Grade Electrician's Licence (Energy Safe Victoria)
  • Construction Induction Card (White Card)
  • Working at heights and roof access
  • Asbestos awareness — essential on pre-1990 homes
  • Low Voltage Rescue and CPR
  • Driver's licence, and a police check for work inside occupied homes

What's different about crewing this sector

Volume work rewards continuity more than any other sector. The same electrician on the same builder's estate is quicker every house, so where a run is steady we try hard to keep the crew together rather than rotating people through it.

Domestic service work is different from site work in one important way: the electrician is often alone in someone's home. We match that work to people with a police check and a record of dealing with the public, not just the right licence.

Older homes mean asbestos. Asbestos awareness is a cheap ticket to hold and the most common reason a renovation start gets delayed, so tell us if the property is pre-1990 and we'll match on it.

Questions

Residential hire, answered

Do you supply electricians to volume builders?
Yes. Estate housing runs are a good fit for casual labour hire — you flex the crew with the build program, pay for hours worked, and we aim to keep the same electricians on the run so the standard stays consistent.
I run an electrical business and I'm short of sparkies. Can I hire from you?
Yes, and that's our most common arrangement. You stay the electrical contractor — your registration, your supervision, your Certificate of Electrical Safety. We employ the electrician, pay their wages, superannuation and WorkCover, and invoice you for the hours your supervisor signs off.
Do you do domestic service and call-out work?
Yes. It's matched differently to site work — we look for a police check and experience working in occupied homes, because on domestic service the electrician is representing you in someone's house on their own.
Who is responsible for the Certificate of Electrical Safety?
You are, under your own REC registration. A labour-hire electrician works under the host's registration — we supply a licensed person, not a contracting entity.
