HV and network

High-voltage and utilities electricians

High voltage is the part of the industry where a ticket on a wall isn't enough. We record HV competencies and switching authorities against the electrician with their expiry, and match on them specifically.

Short answer

Grid Force Hire supplies electricians with high-voltage and utilities experience across Victoria, including substation, zone-substation and network support work, on a casual hourly basis. HV competencies and switching authorities are recorded with expiry dates and matched to the job before anyone is offered the work.

The work

What hosts ask us for on hv and utilities sites

Substation and switchroom

Secondary systems, protection and control wiring, cabling and terminations, and support to switching and commissioning teams.

Network and distribution support

Additional licensed crew for network programs, working under the asset owner's procedures and access rules.

Testing and commissioning support

Extra hands through commissioning windows where the schedule is fixed and the crew has to be competent from hour one.

Matched to your site

Tickets and clearances this work usually needs

This is what we're typically asked for on this kind of site — it isn't a fixed list. What your site needs is whatever you tell us on the request, and that's what we match to. Held is not the same as current, so we check the dates too.

  • Victorian A-Grade Electrician's Licence (Energy Safe Victoria)
  • HV switching competency and, where applicable, a switching authority
  • HV rescue, plus Low Voltage Rescue and CPR
  • Confined space for substation pits and cable tunnels
  • Construction Induction Card (White Card)
  • Asset-owner inductions and access authorisations

What's different about crewing this sector

HV work is matched on recorded, in-date competency — not on a claim in a phone call. If we can't evidence it, we don't offer the electrician for the job.

Switching authorities are usually issued by the asset owner, not by us. Tell us whose network it is and what authorisation the role requires so we're matching to the right thing.

This is a smaller pool than general commercial work, so give us as much notice as you can. HV crews are the hardest to fill in 24 hours.

Questions

HV and utilities hire, answered

Do you supply HV switching operators?
We supply electricians with recorded HV competency, and where they hold a switching authority for a network we record it with its expiry. Authorities are issued by the asset owner, so the final authorisation sits with them, not with us.
How do you verify HV competency?
The certificate is uploaded to the electrician's file, checked by our team and stored with its expiry date. An expired competency stops them being matched to HV work automatically.
How much notice do you need for HV work?
More than for general work. The pool is smaller and the authorisations take longer, so tell us as early as you can rather than assuming the standard 24-48 hour window.

Need hv and utilities electricians?
